The Business of Health Care Report
In a recent Wall Street Journal poll, half of all U.S. adults with health insurance coverage said they worry that costs will rise so high they won’t be able to afford coverage.
Just as many worry that their coverage will be drastically reduced or eliminated. Seventy-four percent support measures requiring employers to provide insurance for all of their employees.
The question of employer mandates often raises concerns about what economic impact this might have on smaller employers. It could drive some out of business.
A private sector solution alone cannot and will not extend coverage to 45 million uninsured people. Government will have to do its part.
Expanding Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program, changing the federal tax code to create incentives, and creating affordable health insurance vehicles are all part of the solution to help get America covered.
Hospitals are working closely with government, healthcare and business leaders to help make this issue a national priority. The time is right to take some of these steps toward providing affordable health insurance coverage for all.
