Everyday, 947 Americans suffer an out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrest. Despite advances in medical understanding and technology, 95 percent of them die, because the vast majority of people witnessing the attacks do not know CPR.
So I ask you an important question: Is your business prepared to save a life?
At Texas Health Resources, we have invested in multiple automated external defibrillators – or AEDs – at our corporate office in Arlington. We also provide employees the opportunity to take a day-long credentialed CPR and AED training program at work. We pay for the class, and we pay the employee a regular day’s pay to take it. Those who already know CPR can use the opportunity to become re-certified.
As a business, investing in AEDs and CPR is a small price to pay when you consider it can mean the difference between life and death. CPR alone can double a victim's chance of survival, according to the American Heart Association.
Our mission is to improve the health of the people in the communities we serve. In 2005, we donated 19 AEDs to local schools, and we are working on additional ways to provide life-saving technology to our communities. We are committed to doing our part. I encourage you to do the same.
