Doug Hawthorne, President and CEO of Texas Health Resources I'm Doug Hawthorne, President and CEO of Texas Health Resources, with "The Business of Health Care Report."

According to The Governance Institute, a “tipping point” has arrived in the public scrutiny of non-profit organizations. Recently, U.S. Senator Charles Grassley asked federal investigators to study how nonprofit hospitals meet their requirement to provide community benefits in exchange for tax-exempt status.

THR welcomes our hospitals’ obligation to provide charity care and community benefit programs. We are proud that each year since THR’s formation in 1997, we have exceeded state-mandated levels of charity care and community benefit, which are measured as a percentage of net patient revenue across the system.

We measure our community benefit and submit a report annually to the State of Texas that includes specific information about programs at each hospital.

We support transparency in quality, safety and pricing information. Our Web site – TexasHealth.org – has a special section devoted to independent measures of quality at our hospitals.

As a faith-based nonprofit organization, Texas Health Resources values integrity, and we are committed to upholding the trust placed in us as stewards of community-based health care assets.

For Texas Health Resources and its faith-based hospitals – Harris Methodist, Presbyterian and Arlington Memorial – I’m Doug Hawthorne.
