The Business of Health Care Report
According to the “Futurescan 2007” survey on health care trends, 96 percent of the respondents expect the amount that business pays for health benefits for employees will continue to grow at 5 to 10 percent per year. Ninety-eight percent say that businesses will increase the share of those costs paid by the employee.
Helen Darling, president of the National Business Group on Health, says that increased cost sharing is one of the most common actions that employers have taken to control costs and give employees a financial stake in health care decisions. Commenting on the Futurescan survey, she adds that consumers need better information about cost and quality, decision-support tools and assistance navigating the care system during this time of transition to consumer-directed health care.
