The Business of Health Care Report
According to the “Futurescan 2007” survey, a majority of health care experts expect that by 2012, consumers will pay more than 20 percent of the total health care bill, up from 13 percent today.
To make informed choices
about health care, businesses and consumers will need more information
about hospital performance and cost of services. In response, the Texas
Hospital Association sponsored the development of a Web site that includes
charge data for inpatient services, links to quality measures, and other
information on Texas hospitals. The Web site is called Texas Price Point,
and can be found at txpricepoint.org.
Texas Price Point is a step in the right direction for providing information that will, hopefully, help people make wise choices about their health care.
The information on Texas Price Point is just a starting place. The actual cost of a particular hospital service can depend on the insurance company’s agreement with the hospital, the severity of an individual case, and other factors difficult to know in advance.
Visit the Web site, then talk with your physician and your insurance representative. We believe an informed patient is one of the keys to controlling cost and improving quality of care and patient satisfaction.
Then our caregivers can devote even more time to their true c
alling – caring for patients.
