The Business of Health Care Report
Promoting good health makes good business sense, a fact that is being embraced by top management at many businesses. Many studies have shown that health promotion and disease prevention programs improve employee health and productivity and reduce long-term health care costs. Some estimates say that for every $100 spent on health promotion, employers could see a $300 return on investment. Screenings for health conditions such as hypertension and colorectal cancer can save lives and reduce costs by catching diseases at an earlier, more manageable stage.
To improve, manage and promote employee health, employers are offering a variety of programs. These include: As part of our Be Healthy THR program, we have a walking track around our parking lot for employee exercise during the work day. We also offer dietary and exercise tips to encourage healthier lifestyles.
Employee participation is critical if employers are to realize future savings.
THR offers cash incentives for things such as getting a physical exam and completing an online health assessment questionnaire.
It's the right thing to do for our people, and it's the smart thing to do for our business.
