THR believes community health is more than just treating sick people.
This fall, one of Texas Health Resources’ hospitals, Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas, collaborated with other community partners to coordinate the donation of more than 1,700 school uniforms for children entering five elementary schools in the Vickery Meadow area of the Dallas Independent School District. A uniform consists of a top, a bottom and a package of six pairs of socks.
Many of the children in the community owned only one uniform and had no choice but to wear worn, dirty and out-grown clothes to school each day. The Vickery Meadow Improvement District worked to bring community leaders together to make them aware of this serious need. The Vickery Meadow community is located in the heart of Dallas with more than 42,000 residents, about 20 languages spoken and a 39 percent poverty rate.
Thanks to community partners like Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas, Park Cities Baptist Church, Harvest Partners, Temple Emanu-El, and others, 40 percent of the children in the designated elementary schools received new uniforms this fall.
Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas is located within the Vickery Meadow boundaries and is an active participant in meeting the ongoing needs of the thousands of families there – health care is more than treating illness.
