When purchasing car insurance, an agent often walks you through the process of choosing adequate coverage for your car. Unfortunately, a similar agent may not exist when it comes to choosing and purchasing health insurance.

According to The Commonwealth Fund, about half of adults in middle-income families reported serious problems in paying for their health care. Even those in more affluent circumstances said they had trouble with medical bills. A recent study by Harvard researchers found that illness and medical bills cause about half of the nation’s personal bankruptcies.

Benefits enrollment time is fast approaching for many of us, and it can be a time-consuming process. However, it’s well worth the time and effort to adequately consider your health insurance options. Remind your employees that the cheapest plan is not always best. Accidents and illnesses are never planned – they just happen. The right health insurance can make those unexpected events less stressful for you and your family.

Take the time to research your options. Choose a plan that will adequately cover your family in case of an emergency. Don’t forget to include routine examinations in your planning.

When illness or accidents happen, you’ll be glad you gave your health as much thought as you gave your car.
