The Business of Health Care Report
In 2003, leaders from Texas Health Resources and Triad Hospitals, Inc., met to discuss a vision for a new hospital in Denton County – one of the fastest growing counties in the United States. Just two years later, the reality of that vision is Presbyterian Hospital of Denton – scheduled to open next week. For the residents of Denton County and the surrounding area, the new hospital will allow patients to receive advanced and outpatient care – close to home. That was the goal of Triad and THR when the two organizations began working on this unusual partnership between nonprofit and investor-owned entities. Leaders from both hospital systems determined that more could be accomplished by working together to deliver much-needed services. In fact, it would have been difficult for either organization to have completed this project alone. But, with our combined strength, a gleaming new hospital for the people of Denton County is now a reality. The hospital will be operated by a partnership board and a local board of trustees with the day-to-day operations managed by Triad Hospitals, Inc. The presence of Presbyterian Hospital of Denton provides a clear example of how collaboration and cooperation between two like-minded health care organizations can improve the health of the community. For Texas Health Resources and its faith-based hospitals – Harris Methodist, Presbyterian and Arlington Memorial – I’m
