The Business of Health Care Report
It is my pleasure today to extend
happy holidays to KRLD's loyal listening audience on behalf of Harris Methodist,
Arlington Memorial and Presbyterian hospitals plus Presbyterian Village North. "Let there be peace on earth, and
let it begin with me" is a favorite song and so appropriate for this time of year.
Certainly, each of us prays for peace around the globe and the freedom once again to
travel throughout the world without fear of terrorism. We pray for the ability to have
loved ones from afar join their families here. And, for the dedicated military personnel
who protect us to stand down, come home and renew their normal lives. But, there also is a need for more
inner peace - an escape from e-mails, wireless computers, cell phones, telemarketers
and a bombardment of mail and messages that never seems to stop. Think back to the time
when you felt solitude and true relaxation. For many, the opportunity to experience
inner peace is not frequent anymore. My wish for you is that you will
experience inner peace this holiday season and help others find it as well. It's a
true gift to spend time with someone who is lonely. To share a handwritten letter with
an old friend is a great gift itself. Take food to someone who is hungry. Apologize
when you are wrong. Exercise patience on behalf of others. Invite someone without
family to join with yours in holiday celebrations. Lend a shoulder to someone who
needs a good cry. Laugh with a group who needs it. Tell a friend what a difference they
make in your life. And, thank someone who never gets thanked, like your mail carrier,
the pharmacist and the police officer who patrols your neighborhood. There's great peace - and health -
in finding time to be alone with your thoughts, to share with others and to experience
the many blessings life has to offer. On behalf of the boards of trustees,
volunteers, physicians and almost 17,000 employees of Texas Health Resources, we wish
you great peace and good health in 2004. Happy holidays. And, join us on the radio for
more about the changing world of health care in 2004. ©
