The Business of
Health Care Report
In August, more than 16,000 THR employees, 1,500 volunteers and
4,000 physicians on the medical staffs celebrated the system's five years of service to the residents of North Texas.
The August 1997 formation of Texas Health Resources brought together three respected Metroplex health care leaders -
Harris Methodist Health System, Presbyterian Healthcare Resources and Arlington Memorial Hospital. One of every five
residents of our 29-county service area seeks health care at THR hospitals. As one of the largest faith-based non-profit health care systems
in Texas and the nation, THR's mission has remained constant -- to improve the health of the people in the communities
we serve. Like any new organization, THR has grown and changed. Since 1998,
THR has invested approximately $635 million in building, renovations, equipment purchases and land acquisition throughout
North Texas. New facilities that have been built and opened include: Arlington
Memorial South Medical Center; Presbyterian Hospital of Allen; major expansion at Presbyterian Hospital of Plano;
comprehensive renovation of the Margot Perot Center for Women and Children at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas; the
Bloxom Tower for Critical Services at Harris Methodist Fort Worth Hospital; and the Siratt Women's Center at Harris
Methodist HEB Hospital. THR has reached beyond its walls to support programs designed to
improve community health and quality of life. Since 1998, THR employees have volunteered 218,000 hours to their
communities. I am proud of what THR has accomplished over the past five years
and of the confidence patients place in Harris Methodist, Presbyterian and Arlington Memorial hospitals to improve
their health. For Texas Health Resources
and its family of hospitals - Harris Methodist Hospitals, Presbyterian
Healthcare System and Arlington Memorial Hospital - I'm CEO Doug
