The Business of
Health Care Report
There was a time, not long ago really, when two or three generations
of families might have the same doctor. This continuity of care resulted in a bond of trust and mutual understanding
fundamental to successful health care delivery. Imagine this happening today, when most people are very mobile to
remain under one doctor's care for more than a few years. Job changes, increased medical specialization and sub-specialties
plus changing insurance plan options and networks make the idea of a physician known by multiple generations as quaint as a
doctor's house call. At each of our 13 Texas Health Resources' hospitals, it's understood that
North Texas communities are now in a near-constant state of change. That understanding contributes and challenges us in our
mission to improve the health of the people in the communities we serve. We acknowledge that we must consistently invest in
our reputation and brand awareness to earn your business and hopefully your respect for a long term. Texas Health hospitals
strive to earn this respect in three ways: by offering the most appropriate and often used health services close to home;
second, by having referral protocols in place to more advanced physician specialists and hospitals when appropriate; and
finally by having a patients-first attitude wherever you seek care in our system. Consistency, dependability and quality standards matter. That's the value
of a health care system that serves rural, suburban and urban areas. So if someone moves from Fort Worth to Plano or from
Stephenville to Dallas, there's peace of mind for the patient, the insurer and the employer knowing that health care needs
will be met through an integrated system of care that consistently strives to improve the health of the communities we
serve. Write to me at Doug Hawthorne, that's H - A- W- T- H- O- R- N- E, at
