The Business of
Health Care Report This week's subject departs from our usual coverage of business issues and focuses on the human element during this period of Thanksgiving. The events of September 11 humbled us all regardless of what "business" we're in: a housewife, a student, a CEO, a manager, a programmer, a sales person, an RN, a teacher. While each of us likely would acknowledge some type of daily woes about our jobs, our complaints paled in comparison to the tragedy, the sadness of lives lost, families broken, faith shaken on that life-changing day. While we may complain about the slowdown in the economy, the truth is we have to acknowledge a prosperity of perhaps unrealistic proportions, a robust Southwest economy that has grown and performed far beyond the norm. Yet each of us seems now to be welcoming a norm that includes reexamining our faith, gathering family closer together, renewing our patriotism, putting political party bickering aside, and working better together as team. And certainly we have to acknowledge the heroes and how we have taken our firefighters and policemen for granted. I also want to acknowledge the health care personnel from across the country and those in New York and Washington who put their disaster plans into place, only to find that few came and many had not survived. Those in the business of healing and caring were prepared but saddened that their special skills could not help to cure this tragedy. The 15,000 employees and 5,000 medical staff physicians of Texas Health Resources and its family of hospitals - Harris Methodist Hospitals, Presbyterian Healthcare System and Arlington Memorial-- wish you a very happy Thanksgiving. May this be a time of turning tragedy to triumph.where sadness turns to hope, families are strengthened and faith is uplifted. God bless you and God bless America.
